Assoc. prof. Ivana Kacirova, MD, Ph.D.

Ivana Kacirova graduated in medicine at Charles University in Prague in 1996 and went on to specialize in paediatrics and from 2004 in clinical pharmacology. In 2003 and 2004 she had the opportunity to study and work at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and the Clinical Trials Office at Cincinnati Children´s Hospital Medical Centre. She is a member of many medical commissions and associations and also the author of many scientific articles. Currently she works as the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, and as the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of University Hospital Ostrava.

 

Prof. Milan Grundmann, MD, Ph.D.

Past-Chair of the Czech Society for Clinical Pharmacology

Milan Grundmann founded the first Department of Clinical Pharmacology in Ostrava in the Czech Republic in the year 1978 and five years later he introduced TDM of antiepileptics and antibiotics. Currently, more than 100 different drugs are here analysed. In 1993, he founded the Section of TDM section of the Pharmacological Society and since then he has participated in the organization of 24 national TDM conferences, which were attended by prominent experts from around the world (repeatedly Prof. Jelliffe and Prof. Sjokvist, Prof. Walson, Prof. Neef, Prof. Bergmann, etc.). He organized two satellite symposia with prof. Sjokvist at the European Conferences of Clinical Pharmacology in Poznan and Istanbul on the importance of TDM in clinical practice. In 2014 he was the organizer of the 1st European Conference of IATDMCT in Prague and in 2017 the 13th EACPT Conference also in Prague. For 20 years he headed the Section of Clinical Pharmacology of the Pharmacological Society and later an independent Czech Society for Clinical Pharmacology. For 20 years he has been lecturing clinical pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of Palacky University in Olomouc and now 10 years at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ostrava, with a significant focus on TDM as one of the foundations of personalized therapy.

 

Assoc. prof. Karel Urbanek, MD, Ph.D.
Vice-President of the IATDMCT 2022 Congress

Karel Urbanek graduated in General Medicine at the Palacký University in Olomouc in 1994, received Ph.D. in Pharmacology and a certification in Internal medicine and in Clinical Pharmacology. In 2007 he became an associate professor of Pharmacology at the Palacký University in Olomouc. Currently, he is the Head of the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Palacký University in Olomouc. He is current Scientific Secretary of the Czech Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Editor-in-Chief of the Czech national clinical pharmacology journal, the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy.

 

Jan Strojil, MD, Ph.D.
Vice-President of the IATDMCT 2022 Congress

Jan Strojil graduated in medicine at the Palacký University in Olomouc in 2004 and went on to specialize in clinical pharmacology. After finishing his clinical training, he obtained a Ph.D. in pharmacology, focusing on clinical pharmacology and kinetics of immunosuppressive drugs. His main research focus is population pharmacokinetics of anti-infectives in special populations (including ECMO patients) and pharmacometrics. In 2015 and 2016 he had the privilege of being a visiting Fulbright scholar at the LAPKB under the kind tutelage of the late great late prof. Roger Jelliffe and current head of the lab Michael Neely. His long-term interest is teaching pharmacology and motivating the next generation of physicians to become better prescribers. Currently, he volunteers as a physician in the COVID ward of his university hospital, getting a much needed reminder of the trials and tribulations of hands-on patient care under limited resources.
